Explanation:
Protists are mostly one-celled organisms. Some make
their own food, but most take in or absorb food. Most
protists move with the help of flagella, pseudopods, or
cilia. Some protists, like the one-celled amoeba and paramecium, feed on other
organisms.
Fungus-like protists share many features with fungi. Like fungi, they are heterotrophs, meaning they must obtain food outside themselves. They also have cell walls and reproduce by forming spores.
Ciliates reproduce asexually by division: the micronucleus undergoes mitosis, while in most ciliates the macronucleus simply pinches apart into two. This process is shown in the drawing above. However, ciliates also reproduce sexually, through a process known as conjugation. Conjugation is often induced by lack of food. Two ciliates of opposite mating types come close together and form a cytoplasmic bridge between the two cells; the micromuclei divide by meiosis, the macronuclei disintegrate, and the conjugating cells exchange haploid micronuclei over the cytoplasmic connection. They then separate, reform new macronuclei from their micronuclei, and divide, but remember that the essence of sexual reproduction is forming a new organism from the combined genetic material of parents. After conjugation, each ciliate partner has acquired new genetic material, and divides to give rise to progeny with a new combination of genes. This is essential to the survival of ciliate lineages; most ciliates cannot reproduce indefinitely by asexual fission, and eventually die out if prohibited from conjugating.
One convenient way to categorize protozoans is by how they move. Some move rapidly, while others creep slowly. Still others are not capable of active movement at all, but instead rely on a host organism to supply their food.
Protozoans With Flagella
Zooflagellates (zoh oh FLAJ uh lits) move by means of one or more flagella. (Recall from Chapter 6 that flagella are long, thin, whip-like cellular projections.) Zooflagellates generally reproduce asexually by binary fission. Recall that asexual reproduction results in genetically identical offspring.
Sarcodines reproduce sexually by syngamy (fusion of two gametes) and asexually by division or budding. In multinucleate forms, cytoplasmic division with distribution of the nuclei occurs.Members of the phylum Sarcodina are ameboid. They move about by using pseudopods and usually eat by phagocytosing food particles, usually bacteria. Some amoeba form calcium carbonate or silica skeletons called tests to protect themselves.
The sporozoans are able to form spore-like cells, from which they get their name. Sporozoans do not have flagella, cilia, or pseudopodia. They are capable of gliding movements. ... The apical complex secretes enzymes which allow the sporozoan to enter a host cell.Apicomplexan, also called sporozoan, any protozoan of the (typically) spore-producing phylum Apicomplexa, which is called by some authorities Sporozoa. ... Apicomplexans feed by absorbing either dissolved food ingested by the host (saprozoic nutrition) or the host's cytoplasm and body fluids.Protozoa reproduce asexually by fission, schizogony, or budding. Some protozoa can also reproduce sexually. Relatively few protozoa cause disease

A farmer grows several crops on a farm that has mostly shallow, sandy soil, meaning they have
a low water storage capacity and a high infiltration rate. Which of the following irrigation
methods would be the best suited for this farm?
Select one:
O a. Drip irrigation
O b. Surface irrigation
O c. Flood irrigation
O d. Furrow irrigation
For a sandy soil farmer should use drip irrigation method over surface irrigation.
Sandy soils have a low water storage capacity and a high infiltration rate. Therefore they need frequent but small irrigation methods, drip irrigation is most suitable method than surface irrigation.
In other irrigation methods such as Surface irrigation, Flood irrigation, Furrow irrigation water is discharged in quite large amounts but the soil lost it due to the high infiltration rate.
Therefore, for a sandy soil farmer should use drip irrigation method over surface irrigation.

How is the age of the earth used as evidence of evolution?
Answer:
Explanation:
All radiometric evidence points to the age of the Earth as about 4.54 billion years old. The old age of the Earth is evidence for evolution, a change in the genetic makeup of a population over time.
Answer:
The age of the earth can be used as evidence of evolution because it withholds the past that we are capable of uncovering bit by bit. We excavate fossils buried in the ground which we use accordingly. The fossil record reveals that the deeper you go, the farther back in history you unearth. This is known as the Law of Superposition. With these fossils, we can compare and contrast the anatomy of closely related organisms and possibly uncover vestigial structures. All of which is evidence that evolution has taken place.

The ice cubes represents the solar energy.
What is Solar energy?
Solar energy is the radiant heat and light from the Sun that is captured by a variety of technologies, including solar architecture, solar thermal energy (including solar water heating), and solar power to produce electricity.
It is a crucial source of renewable energy, and depending on how solar energy is captured, distributed, or transformed into solar power, its technologies are often classified as passive solar or active solar. Utilizing photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar electricity.
A building's orientation toward the Sun, the use of materials with favorable thermal mass or light-dispersing qualities, and the creation of naturally ventilated rooms are all examples of passive solar approaches.
Therefore, The ice cubes represents the solar energy.

Describe the northern and southern hemisphere in terms of the distribution of the cryosphere
Answer:
The cryosphere is the portion of the Earth's surface where water is in solid form. It thus includes sea ice, lake ice and river-ice, snow cover, glaciers, ice caps and ice sheets, and frozen ground. The snow cover has the largest extent, with a maximum area of more than 45 106 km2 (Table 1.1). Because of the present distribution of continents, land surfaces at high latitudes are much larger in the Northern Hemisphere than in the Southern Hemisphere. As a consequence, the large majority of the snow cover is located in the Northern Hemisphere (Figs. 1.15 and 1.16). The same is true for the freshwater ice that forms on rivers and lakes in winter. Both the snow cover and freshwater ice have a very strong seasonal cycle, as they nearly disappear in summer in both hemispheres (Table 1.1).
Explanation:
The cryosphere is the portion of the Earth's surface where water is in solid form. ... Because of the present distribution of continents, land surfaces at high latitudes are much larger in the Northern Hemisphere than in the Southern Hemisphere.

Smooth muscle is one of the three types of muscles involved in controlling the movements inside your body organs and is involuntary. Thus, options a and e are correct.
What are smooth muscles?Smooth muscles are the non-striated muscle that lacks sarcomeres and striations and thus lacks bands. They are found through the internal body structures and have a variety of functions.
The smooth muscles can be found in the walls of the liver, intestines, pancreas, urinary tract, uterus, etc. but not in the heart. They also have a spindle shape that contains only one nucleus in it.
They are not under the control of the organisms and rather are controlled by the nervous system, skeletal system, chemicals, and hormones.
Therefore, the smooth muscles are involuntary muscles that control the internal structure. Options a and e are correct.

Nitrogen bases pair with bases that are...
available
complementary
complementary and identical
identical
Nitrogenous bases basically pairs with bases that are complementary. The correct option is B.
What are nitrogenous bases?Nucleobases, also referred to as nitrogenous bases or purely bases, are nitrogen-containing biological molecules that form nucleosides, which are then constituents of nucleotides, all of which are the basic building boxes of nucleic acids.
A set of 5 nitrogenous bases is used to build nucleotides, which then in results nucleic acids such as DNA and RNA.
These bases are critical because their sequencing in DNA and RNA is how information is stored.
A base pair in DNA are complementary to each other. Under normal conditions, the nitrogen-containing bases adenine (A) and thymine (T) pair, whilst also cytosine (C) and guanine (G) pair.
The structure of DNA is formed by the binding of these base pairs.
Thus, the correct option is B.
